SUB-THEMES

Traditional Recipe: Cultural Landscape

Landscape is a cultural footprint of man on Earth. Therefore, a sign that a society is able to sustain itself can be seen in whether a society is successful in keeping not its cultural footprints consistent with its evolution and development but also whether the 'feeling' for the prints are shared by its younger generation.

Sustainable Development and City Living

Urbanites are getting more impersonal and self-centred;it's a question of survival in a very unforgiving and sanitized world. Life is always in a hurry and time is always on the deficit. City living requires juggling of many conflicting demand: space against nature, technologies against values, convenience against tradition and personal privacy against inclusiveness. There is a need for revisiting how we integrate patterns of human behaviour and natural cycles so that we may set interlink all these dynamisms into mutually beneficial co-existence as sustainability of environment means sustainability of humankind.

Technology in the Service of Environment

Each day man would have achieved better means to intervene with nature; not all the time this is good for him. With greater understanding of nature and creativity relating to it, the power of technology can be harnessed towards greater good for the environment which in the end for the greater good of man.

Enduring Nature

The landscape in the past has acknowledged nature as an integral element to the innovative designs of humans. As men start to discover more of aesthetic quality and functional values, the innovative designs of men have interfered the nature in thoughtless ways. Nature is currently reacting to this situation. Humans are part of the symbiotic system but humans are the decision makers of this life cycle. The past, present and future of the nature relies on the responsiveness of humans. Thus it is important to take charge in reminding ourselves of the responsibility to be sensitive on how the nature is behaving and how to act responsibly.
